Syrian President Bashar al-Assad is on a visit to the United Arab Emirates, where he met with the ruler of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. This is his first visit to an Arab country since the beginning of foreign-backed terrorism and extremism in Syria.
Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Syrian President Bashar al-Assad met in Abu Dhabi on Friday, in which the Emirati Crown Prince described Syria as a key pillar of Arab security.
Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan described the relations between the UAE and Syria as fraternal and said that his country was keenly interested in enhancing cooperation with Syria.
In this meeting, the Syrian president said that in order to protect the region, it is necessary that we adhere to our principles, the sovereignty of our country and the interests of our people.
It is noteworthy that a few months before the Syrian President’s visit to the UAE, the UAE Foreign Minister Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan had visited Damascus. The visit comes at a time when the possibility of Damascus returning to the Arab League has increased.
The United States has reacted negatively to the Syrian president’s visit to the UAE.
